Mission
This project asked us as designers to consider the history of audio players and make a product for the future of consuming music, specifically a speaker. This project was my formal introduction into CAD modeling and taught me important concepts of how products are made. It taught me that when designing it is important to consider how your product will be manufactured, assembled and repaired.
Assembly
For this project it was important to understand how to assemble my speaker and create supporting documents like a bill of materials. I chose to use brushed aluminums for their ability to "tell a story" as it wears. The whole assembly snapped together with aluminum standoffs and was supposed to be easily repaired.
Accessories and Features
This was one of the few projects where I still had time left at end. With that extra time I decided to explore how the modular and magnetic stacking component would work with accessories.
Travel Loop
The loop was an accessory made for days outdoors. Designed to magnetically attach to the speaker and then be clipped to a backpack or bag for easy on-the-go listening.
TV Stand
The TV stand was an idea based on the idea that the speaker didn't have to conform to being in one place. Using the trio of speakers you could get a great sound bar. Better yet, add two more in the back of the room for 3D surround sound.
Stacking
The stacking mechanism was a key component in my modular concept. I chose to use magnets embedded in each speaker to allow them to connect and charge seamlessly.
